Dr. János Pakucs, chairman of the organizing committee and honorary president of the Hungarian Innovation Association, presented the details of the competition. He mentioned that over the past 32 years, 1,453 applications have been evaluated and 248 innovation awards have been distributed. He emphasized that the winners represent all segments of the economy, with both large companies and SMEs having the opportunity to apply, and even research institutes among the previous winners.

Csaba Poroszlai, CEO of Egis and recipient of the 2023 Innovation Grand Prize, greeted the audience. "This award carries weight, not only physically but also metaphorically," he recalled from the March award ceremony. One of the products recognized with the Innovation Grand Prize in last year's competition is one of Egis's most successful products, which is associated with five patents. However, the innovation mindset is not limited to drug development; it characterizes the whole Egis and even the entire domestic pharmaceutical industry, highlighting the pharmaceutical sector among the national economic sectors.

Energy Minister Csaba Lantos provided personal examples of groundbreaking, highly successful domestic innovations that originated in Hungary. Although the profiles and nature of the individual initiatives differed significantly, the minister emphasized that all of them were characterized by leaders who did not get discouraged by failures, believed in their ideas, and were able to adapt flexibly to changing circumstances. Innovation is not an end in itself; it leads to business success, which contributes to the well-being of the country, Csaba Lantos stressed.

Deputy State Secretary László Bódis, CEO of the National Innovation Agency, reviewed the innovation potential of domestic economic actors and their support opportunities. Deputy State Secretary Ádám Nagy spoke about the Industrial and IT Innovation Award, and Szabolcs Farkas, president of the National Intellectual Property Office, discussed industrial property awareness.

During the panel discussion, representatives of the companies awarded last year (i.e., recipients of the Industrial, Energy, Environmental, Agricultural Innovation Award, and the 'From Basic Research to Market' Innovation Award) shared their experiences. The event concluded with a speech by Gábor Szabó, president of the Hungarian Innovation Association, who opined that the Innovation Competition also provides feedback on the performance of domestic economic sectors, and those industries that are significantly represented among the awardees can rightfully be considered leading sectors.
