Our guests were given not only the opportunity to learn about the daily operation of our pharma company and the whole value chain of pharmaceutical production, but they also had the chance to discover some interesting stories from our company’s history.  As we celebrate the 110th anniversary of the company’s foundation throughout 2023, the historical part of the program was even more relevant this year.  We have been trendy for 110 years: starting out as a small factory manufacturing nutriments in Kőbánya, over the time, our company has become a leading generic pharmaceutical company at regional level, working to enable even more people to lead long and healthy lives.

Visitors were able to learn more about a specific era in our history. We recalled the years of the foundation, remembered the founder - CEO, Sándor Balla, looked back at some of the events of that time and the process to strengthen the  company's position.
They also could take a closer look at some old equipment once used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, try themselves as forklift drivers or manually fill hand cream tubes. We also remembered a famous colleague of ours from the past: between 1958 and 1963, István Örkény was one of the company’s employees. The writer (with a degree in pharmacy and chemical engineering) was banned from publishing but he found a supportive environment here. The revival of his creativity is also linked to these years. It was then that he developed that characteristic, deadpan and grotesque style, which made him one of the great artists of the Hungarian literature, and when he wrote the first One-minute short stories, as well as – still in the form of short novels – The Tóth Family and Catsplay.
We also provided insight into the perspectives of our company. We guided our visitors through the most important processes of pharmaceutical production, listing all the work phases necessary to turn a promising molecule into a medicine.
Thank you for choosing Egis on the Night of Museums! If you missed the visit this time, we advise you to look for the Night of Modern Factories event in autumn.
