Elephant toothpaste, bouncy egg, ion hunting - spectacular experiments carried the show in the final of the Egis - Researcher’s Night National Chemistry Competition for Secondary School Students, held at the Egis Science and Technology Centre. Sometimes an immersive experience is enough to inspire more students to go in for chemistry, the basis for research and pharmaceutical drug development. However, the growing shortage of chemistry teachers is alarming. The best way to get youngsters interested in chemistry is through laboratory experiments, but they are often omitted, even in classes, held by specialised teachers.

Speaking at the press conference of the event, dr Klára András, our company’s HR and Communications Director emphasized that it is important for Egis to get more students interested in chemistry.

After sixteen years with the company, Dr Péter Mázsár, Commercial Director will leave Egis at the end of August.

Over the next few years, Egis Pharmaceuticals PLC will invest EUR 21.1 million to increase its capacity at its Körmend site. To finance these developments, Egis will use its own capital and a government subsidy of EUR 3.4 million – announced Csaba Poroszlai, CEO of Egis. In total, the company will devote more than EUR 50 million to the development of the Körmend site of Egis since 2019.

Although the Researchers' Night will not take place until autumn, one of the side events of the large-scale event is already open for registration: the thought-provoking chemistry competition is sponsored by Egis.

Mr. Csaba Poroszlai, CEO of Egis and dr Tamás Rónay CEO of Sanofi-Aventis and Chinoin were elected vice presidents of the Hungarian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (MAGYOSZ) at the Association’s annual general meeting. The executive director of Meditop Kft., dr Dávid Greskovits, will hold the position of president for another three years. Mr. Csaba Poroszlai has also become the member of the presidential board.
